The Hole Story

Earlier in the month we helped a co-resident at our HQ set up their shop.

Stands / racks were needed for cables, speaker stands and more.

I’d built a version of the “$30 Lumber Rack” (original here) earlier in the week to tame my pile of pipe, duct and timber.

A couple of clever angled jigs were set up on the drill press with forstner bits and before long we had a sturdy adjustable system.

MDF IDF WTF?

IDFFollowing a large fire last year in the warehouse next door a contractor laid temporary cabling to restore phone services for a client.

Sadly there was a huge amount of orphaned cabling already attached to the IDF.

With a change in tennants and relocation of various services at the site there were two options : do it quickly [ugly] or do it right.

With only a minimum of extra time the IDF was fully rebuilt and documented (including installation of Mode 3 wiring for an alarm panel) with orphaned cabling removed and propper jumpering done making future service a breeze (not to mention increasinging reliability!) Plans are already underway to expand services on site.

We took a little time today to draw up a quick DXF in Illustrator and get some quotes for laser / waterjet cut steel plates to act as truss bases for a client. Even though the project would have been cheaper (than commercially available parts) the client did not wish to proceed for a number of factors. An excellent design and study none the less which will be useful down the track…

The above was a 3D render in Illustrator.

Not even the pouring rain is putting the dampener on big shows (at least the indoor ones!)

Last evening or so has been spent helping One20Productions rig and program a large lightshow.

Work has included fabricating new platter mounts to allow the effects lighting to sit securely on the new truss.

We’ll also be working on fabricating our own steel bases in future as it will be a considerable cost saving for our clients versus buying and shipping from elsewhere.

Wherever there’s sawdust there’s something being made…

The last few weeks have been mad as we extend the storage capabilities of our pallet racks to better allow access to our stock – all this in between in launching this new site, our regular daily rounds and even filing some old tax returns!
